Classics Courses

The Classics section offers courses not only in Latin and Greek, but in translation. And courses about the ancient world are also offered by contributing faculty in other departments on campus, including Philosophy, History, Art, Theatre, Political Science, and English.

Classics 491: Classics Seminar

This is our capstone research course, required for classics majors and minors, though others are welcome. The course satisfies the CoLA Writing Across the Curriculum requirement. There are no formal prerequisites, but some knowledge of the ancient world will prove helpful (such as that provided by CLAS 230, 270, and 271).  Recent topics include War and Society in Ancient Greece, Greek and Roman Religion, Socrates, Homer, and Hellenistic Philosophy. No knowledge of Latin or Greek is required. The extent of the research required will vary with topic and instructor: check with the relevant professor to see what will be required.

For more information on classics courses, see the Languages, Cultures, and International Studies catalog section here.
