Graduate Students Awarded for Research
Psychology doctoral candidates
Jackie Klaver (L) and Sufna Gheyara (R) are the 2013 recipients of the Sigma Xi Rose and Essie Padgett Award for outstanding dissertation research. Both doctoral candidates in psychology are currently in the data collection phase of their respective research projects, working under the guidance of Professor Lisabeth DiLalla.
Jackie, who comes to SIU from Milwaukee, WI, is exploring the psychological and genetic contribution to the development of social cognitive abilities in children, while Sufna, who comes to us from Farmington Hills, MI, is studying genetic and parental influences on the development of emotion recognition skills in children. Ms. Klaver intends to work in a clinical setting at a children’s hospital, while Ms. Gheyara has set her sights on a position at an academic medical center. Both are in their fourth year of graduate work. Congratulations!
