'The Nutcracker' hits Shryock stage Dec. 15, 16 - Saluki Times
A holiday favorite will come to life at Southern Illinois University Carbondale this month. The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra presents “The Nutcracker,” at Shryock Auditorium, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. The Southern Illinois Music Festival Dance Company and the Southern Illinois Children’s Choir join the symphony in this biennial production.

History professor makes New York Times - CoLA
A letter written by professor Robbie Lieberman of the History department was featured in the July 7 New York Times opinion section. Her letter, in a response to a July 4 column titled "The Downside of Liberty," asserts that blaming counterculture movements of the 1960s for the "unshackled capitalism" of today are a distortion of history.

Allison Joseph, poet and director of the creative writing master of fine arts program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, has received dozens of awards for her poetry. At the recent Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference, she received an award for her role as mentor and advocate for young writers.
