My dream job is being an emergency band director to help music programs in need. In a perfect world, I would like to perform in a marching band for the rest of my life, and maybe be an actress in "Doctor Who."
When I was still attending community college, I had the opportunity to march with the Marching Salukis, but not being a full-time Saluki I didn't think I would fit in at all. Marching with the Salukis showed me that I did belong somewhere and being a member of the Marching Salukis got me through some of the toughest years of my life. I owe my academic success and happiness to my family in the Marching Salukis, I wouldn't have made it this far without them.
I choose SIU because Dr. Christopher Butler would tease me every day at practice to transfer to SIU instead of Murray State. At the end of my first season with the Marching Salukis, I realized I couldn't leave my family on the drumline and all the music department staff that had helped me so much along the way, so I chose to transfer to SIU instead.
My favorite aspects of SIU are the Marching Salukis, Dr. Brozak and his colleagues in the music department, my family on the drumline, and the way that the clock tower plays the Alma Mater and "Go, Southern, Go."
A long time ago I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to live without marching band ever again, so that's a big reason why I wanted to become a band director, so I can make sure that no other band students had to endure what my band program went through.
Outside of music, I'm also an actress, graphic designer, artist, sci-fi geek, and writer. I love space, and robots, and my one weird party trick is that I'm oddly good at biting KitKat bars perfectly in half.
Micy's Favorite Quotes:
"And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."—John Keating, "Dead Poets Society"
"It never rains on the Marching Salukis!"—Dr. Brozak
