Applicants to the MA, PhD, and MFA programs in English must complete the following steps.  The application deadline to be considered for fellowship support is January 1st for prospective PhD and MA students (that is, those applying to programs in literary studies and rhetoric and composition). However, applications submitted to these programs after January 1st will be considered on a rolling basis until March 15th. The deadline for MFA (that is, creative writing) applicants is February 1st.

There is no deadline for applications for the MA in English Studies program.  However, to ensure full consideration for summer or fall admission, applicants should complete the following steps by April 20th.  To ensure full consideration for spring admission, applicants should complete the following steps by November 15th.

Some of these forms require the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded free from Adobe's website.

Applicants to the MA and PhD programs must submit scores for the general portion of the Graduate Record Examination. MFA applicants are strongly advised to submit these scores as well. International students must submit TOEFL scores and a letter of sufficient financial support at the time of application. The minimum GPA for admission to SIU Carbondale’s Graduate School is 2.7 (of 4.0).
