Economics Club visits Federal Reserve

February 25, 2016

Economics Club students on St. Louis sidewalkThe department and the Economics Club recently sponsored a trip to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for its biannual "Day at the Fed.” The Economics Club provided bus transportation and 20 students were able to travel to the all-day event. Our students were introduced to the workings of the Fed and learned about internship and job opportunities at the institution. Students were also able to talk to recent hires and hiring managers, individually and in break-out sessions.

Everyone agreed that the trip was very informative and worthwhile, especially for underclassmen, and that the complimentary breakfast and lunch were very tasty. The Economics Club (the Southern Illinois Economics Association RSO, or Registered Student Organization) is open to all students interested in economics and is planning similar outings in the future, such as spending a day with the St. Louis Cardinals talking to data scientists and economics majors working at the front office.
