Valerie Brooks Wallin is the School’s Academic Advisor. She has been with the Advisement Office since 1996, serving as the Advisor since 2005. In addition to advising approximately 300 undergraduates, Valerie serves on the Undergraduate Studies Committee, the Undergraduate Scholarship Committee, and the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. She is an Academic representative on the Administrative/Professional (A/P) Staff Council’s Judicial Review Board and is the A/P representative for the State Universities Annuitants Association. She is also a member of the Professional Development Working Group of the Advisory Council. Valerie is an active member of the Illinois Academic Advising Association and the National Academic Advising Association, and she is a participant in the University’s Safe Zone Program, which identifies gay friendly faculty and staff to provide support and resources for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students. Valerie is a Saluki through and through, having earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Southern. She is a Saluki basketball and Cardinal baseball fan, an avid knitter, and lives in Cobden with her husband, Jeff, and their feline friends, Francis, Roswell, and Landau, and pooch, Festus.
