University Studies
Students can earn either a B.A. or B.S. degree in University Studies.
What is University Studies?
A passage to the bachelor's degree without a formal major
An opportunity to build an individualized program based on the needs of the student
A broadly based degree that not only allows but requires diversification
An avenue of preparation for the new work force where knowledge of science, social science, humanities, fine arts and technology is required
A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree to use as preparation to graduate or professional programs
What University Studies is Not
Not for those who need or want an in-depth course of study in one department
Not for certification or licensing in a particular job or program
Who is a "University Studies Student"?
Any person who wishes to attend classes but not work toward a particular major
Any student who enjoys several subjects--not just one
A business person who wants a degree
A health-care worker who wants a degree
A computer operator who wants a degree
A homemaker who works part-time
A well-read, fluent, literate person
A musician or artist who wants to broaden his/her studies
An auto technician who loves to read and write
Where are University Studies Students?
On the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale campus
Taking SIUC Travel Study courses overseas
Attending SIUC classes at remote sites away from campus
Anywhere in the world completing course work through the Individualized Learning Program (study through correspondence)
