Patrick Daly is a career prosecutor who began his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in 1994 with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office in Murphysboro, IL, where he prosecuted cases ranging from Driving While Under the Influence to Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and First Degree Murder. In 1998, he joined the Office of the State’s Attorney Appellate Prosecutor, where he represents the State’s Attorneys offices of the 37 southernmost counties in all appeals before Illinois’s Fifth Appellate Judicial District, the Illinois Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court.
He has written appellate briefs in over 600 cases, and argued over 250 times in the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts. His principal focuses are 4th and 5th Amendment jurisprudence and criminal jurisdictional matters. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois, California, and the United States Supreme Court He joined the Southern Illinois Paralegal Studies faculty in January 2017, and teaches on-line based courses in criminal law and procedure.
