"Rising Voices" screening comes to campus
October 27, 2015
The Department of Linguistics will offer a screening of "Rising Voices," a one-hour documentary film about the endangerment and revitalization of the Lakota language, at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 12, Lawson Hall, Room 161.
The film illuminates the problem of ancestral language loss to Native American people. It tells the story of efforts by members of the Lakota community and linguists outside the Lakota community working together to save the Lakota language and restore it to its rightful place in Lakota, and American, culture. A Q and A with linguistics faculty Vicki Carstens and Jeff Punske will follow the screening. For additional information and to view the film trailer visit: http://risingvoicesfilm.com/.
