April 23, 2013
The College is proud to announce that Theater’s Anne Fletcher has been recognized for her teaching excellence as the University Distinguished Teacher designate for 2013. It was Fletcher who implemented the Dramaturgy program at SIU. Ronald Naversen, professor of scenic design and graduate studies director in the Department of Theater who nominated Professor Fletcher for the award, notes that she has a gift “to blend theory with practice and classroom with stage that has made her so indispensable to our students’ education. . .” Most notably, Fletcher is credited with providing a “nurturing atmosphere for undergraduates while still making the course challenging for graduate students.” She enjoys national prominence for her pioneering work in theater teaching methods and practice, and SIU is fortunate to call her our own.
