Doctoral student earns overseas fellowship

Rebecca L. Farinas (Philosophy, Ph.D, ABD) has been awarded a presitigous Kosciuszko Foundation Fellowship for 2012-13 to complete her dissertation research at the University of Wasaw's English Institute of Philosophy. She is writing on aeshteics, art and the philosophy of culture and looking specifically at the work of Arthur C. Danto and Pierre Bourdeiu. Her dissertation Director, Professor Kenneth Stikkers, is working with Dean Kimberly Kempf-Leonard and the University of Warsaw to establish a permanent partnership with SIUC.
"This scholarship supports a graduate level research at universities in Poland by American graduate students and university faculty members with funding form the Polish Ministry of Education and the Kosciuszko Foundation. Founded in 1925, the Kosciuszko Foundation promotes closer ties between Poland and the United States through educational, scientific and cultural exchanges.
