The SIU School of Music and Jazz Faculty welcome you to attend the 2017 SIU Jazz Festival!
As in the past, our festival will be an educational/competitive environment. Each band will receive a personalized clinic following their performance. Trophies will be awarded to Outstanding Bands and Sections. Outstanding Soloists will receive certificates. Guest artist and Jazz educator, Dr. Timothy Pitchford will be featured in a masterclass and with the SIU Studio Jazz Orchestra.

Dr. Timothy Pitchford, Guest Artist
For the past decade, native-Floridian Dr. Tim Pitchford has lived and taught in the state of Illinois. He has spent the last five years as director of the jazz program and trombone professor at Illinois Wesleyan University, a private liberal arts college in Bloomington, IL. As a professional trombonist, Dr. Pitchford has performed with Joe Williams, Maureen McGovern, Arturo Sandoval, Gloria Gaynor, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, the Woody Herman Orchestra, and many others. He has recorded on several Grammy- and Latin Grammy-nominated albums and numerous independent and commercial recordings. From 2002-2005, he performed throughout Europe, North, Central, and South America with pop-music icon, K.C. and the Sunshine Band. Dr. Pitchford holds degrees in jazz performance from University of North Florida, Georgia State University, and the University of Miami. In the Fall of 2016, Dr. Pitchford began teaching at The Lovett School, a college preparatory K-12 school in Atlanta, GA. He is the director of Lovett's award-winning Ellington Jazz Ensemble.
