Foreign Language Day 2016

Award Ceremony

Eager students awaiting the Award Ceremony at a previous FLD

SIU Foreign Language Day: March 31, 2016

FLD 2016 PROGRAM

Come join us for more language and cultural learning and scholar bowl fun, plus events brought back by popular demand: "Your Name In..." and Origami.

T-Shirt Contest!

We've all seen some pretty amazing language themed t-shirts at FLD over the years - so why not recognize the creativity of your students by entering our t-shirt contest? Send us an electronic picture (preferably in PDF format) of your t-shirt attached to an email by March 20th, and our  team of t-shirt experts will judge them and announce first, second, and third place winners at the award ceremony (12:30 - 12:45). Send your pictures here: forlang@siu.edu. Please photograph your t-shirt by itself - sans student models.

NOTE: If you bring an actual T-Shirt, we will display it on the boards throughout the Corker Lounge for all to see!

P.S. Don't forget to pick up your shirt when you leave.

NEW THIS YEAR! DRAMATIC INTERPRETATIONS

Memorize* and prepare an interpretive reading of a poem, a quote, or an excerpt from a story in a foreign language (French, German, Latin, Spanish). Students can recite, interpret, or act out the reading using small props.

NOTE: Students participating in Scholar Bowl can participate in Dramatic Interpretations. If this event occurs when they are sceduled for a bowl competition, students will have to choose one or the other.

Also, please bring 2 copies of reading.

*Points will be deducted from interpretations if student has not memorized the reading. For more information, please download Dramatic Interpretation Scoring Sheet here.

JUST ADDED! MATERIALS EXCHANGE (for students and teachers) -

We are inviting you to bring your foreign language books, posters, maps, and teaching materials you no longer need and share with colleagues and students!

A table or two will be set up for these free materials in the Corker Lounge.
