Classics at SIU
Classics is the study of Ancient Greece and Rome, civilizations which have had a deep impact on our world. Classics is a strongly interdisciplinary field, and Classics students will study the language, literature, culture, history, and material remains of these civilizations in courses taught by faculty from our Classics section and a range of cooperating faculty from other departments.
Classics majors receive a liberal arts education which gives them the analytical tools to pursue a wide range of careers. Our program is flexible, allowing students to pursue their own interests within Classics and, should they so wish, a second major or degree in another field.
In addition to our major (specialization), we offer three different minors in Classics: Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilization.
