Young Writers Workshop
Held each June on the SIU Carbondale campus, the Young Writers Workshop is an annual five-day residential creative writing workshop for high school students. Students come from all over Illinois and beyond to study creative writing with SIU Carbondale faculty and graduate students.
MFA students are a vital part of this program, serving as resident advisors in the dorm, teachers during workshops and classes, and as mentors for teen writers. The program is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Many positions are available with the Workshop.
Every spring semester, a graduate student is paid to serve as Assistant Director, working with Allison Joseph on long-range planning and publicity. Also available are paid resident advisor positions, internships for course credit, and volunteer positions.
