Craig L. Engstrom is an Assistant Professor of Communication in the Department of Communication Studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration (summa cum laude) from Colorado Mesa University (2001) and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2010). Dr. Engstrom describes himself as a teacher–scholar–consultant who aims to understand and improve business and organizational communication through rhetoric. His academic work weaves among the disciplines of communication, entrepreneurship, training and development, and organization studies. His current research focuses on professionalizing organizational communication, the relationships between institutionalized practices and organizational structures, and rhetorical fantasy themes used in professional communication.
Dr. Engstrom has published several book chapters as well as academic articles in professional journals such as International Journal of Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management, Journal for Critical Organization Inquiry, and Communication Studies. He’s the author of the textbooks Public Speaking in the Digital Age and Business Communication for Professionals and Consultants. He’s the coeditor of a forthcoming book on the subject of training and development: Qualitative Communication Consulting: Stories and Lessons from the Field.
